VillArroyo Syndrome In The Philippines

Sunday, February 28th, 2010 | Politics with 6 Comments

The VillArroyo syndrome is a new epidemic that is spreading rapidly throughout the more than 7,100 islands of the Philippine Archipelago.  This sickness, which continue to creep the over 90 Million Filipino populace, is not the one that brings down the health and physical strength of a human being, rather, this syndrome seems to perk up the almost two way election fight between Manny Villar and Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.  Villar currently is on the hot tail of Aquino in all presidential surveys for the 2010 Presidential ElectionsVillArroyo was coined because Villar is being likened with incumbent president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and they are rumored to be having a secret deal.

Cause of VillArroyo Syndrome:

  • Multi-million peso ads.  The extravagant and widespread TV, print, Radio and Internet Ads of Manny Villar has greatly succeeded in implanting its tune in the subconscious of some sectors. The many street children are now singing about Villar’s alleged humble origins. But will this tune really sound well and will not give a bad after taste come election time?  The following are some of the popular TV Ads of Manny Villar.

These political ads melodies have been very effective in leaving a nostalgic and sentimental experience to its viewers. This is because the songs and tunes are related to childhood or teenage experiences that brought about deep, emotional, and sentimental impact to anyone.  The “hindi coño, taga-Tondo”, “mag-aalis ng ating kahirapan” are all tag-lines that really create a lasting impact to the majority of televiewers and radio listeners.

As usual, Villar hopes that this songs will remain in the minds of the people come election time and not saturate them and becomes irritating because of too much emphasis on the poor situation of a lot of Filipinos.
