December 26, 2011 and January 2, 2012, both Mondays, were not among the list holidays for 2011 as declared by Malacanang through Proclamation No. 84 signed by Philippines President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III last December 2010.
As of posting, the remaining holidays for 2011 includes December 25 (Christmas) and December 30 (Rizal Day) and December 31. January 1, 2012 (New Year’s Day) is an annual regular holiday like Christmas and Rizal Day.
According to presidential spokesman, Edwin Lacierda, they will strictly follow Proclamation No. 84 for the rest of the year.
During the past administration of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, they implemented “holiday economics” that moves holidays that fall within the week to the nearest Mondays.
Holiday economics was scrapped by the Aquino administration.
The official list of holidays for 2012 was already issued earlier.
The official list of Philippine holidays, regular holidays and special non-working days, for 2012 was declared by Malacanang through Proclamation No. 295, series of 2011.
The early announcement of holidays in the Philippines will give the opportunity for Filipinos to lay down their plans for next year. Proclamation no. 295 will also enable businesses and educational institutions to plot their work schedule and school calendar earlier. The early release of the 2012 Philippine Holidays will also give enough time for those who are planning to have a long vacation.
Below is the complete text of Proclamation No. 295 or the official declaration of Philippine Holidays for 2012 taken from the official website of the Philippine government at www.gov.ph.
