New York Earthquake 2010 is strongest in 18 years

An earthquake registered at 3.9-magnitude was monitored in Long Island, New York. The epicenter of the quake was reported by CS Monitor to be in the Atlantic Ocean, 80 miles off Southampton and east of Long Island. According to the U.S. Geological Survey the shakeup occurred around 10:45 a.m. and was at 4.1 miles deep. The latest minor quake is considered as the strongest earthquake in the area for the last 18 years.

No casualty or any serious damage to properties were reported in New York City.

The quake was felt by residents in New York City, parts of East Coast, Massachusetts and Southampton for a few seconds.

There was no Tsunami alert issued by authorities.

SYDNEY, AustraliaAmerican Ashley Kerekes, Twitter user behind @theashes, became an instant hit when she complained last Saturday, November 27, 2010 after her account was bombarded by messages about cricket, according to international news sites.The lady was so upset to receive a lot of tweets from a topic she doesn’t know. She even asked other twitter users about a wicket. Kerekas admitted that she is not even sure of who to support between Australia and England. She previously tweets only about knitting and updates on the “Glee” TV show.

On Monday, November 29, 2010 @theashes was offering a self-designed T-shirt worth $19.90 at www.spreadshirt.com, using her famous tweet “I am not a freaking cricket match!!” aiming to share the income to #gettheashestotheashes.

Kerekas tweeted, “I hope no one is offended by me making T-shirts.” The lady added that she might “probably make two cents a shirt” but she is “not trying to get rich, just have fun.”

Due to her instant popularity, the lady from Massachusetts was even offered a free flight by Qantas Airways from New York to Australia and sell her T-Shirts there.

The 22-year old Kerekas had about 300 followers before the Australia-England match, but in the morning of Monday her followers increased to 6,100. Her boyfriend was the one who started calling her “the ashes.” She registered the Twitter name @theashes in 2007.

November 16 a National Non-Working Holiday

In celebration of the Islamic religious holiday Eid’l Adha, Malacañang has declared November 16, 2010,  Tuesday, a National Holiday.

Through Proclamation No. 60, signed by President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, November 16 is now a non-working holiday.

DECLARING TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2010 AS A NATIONAL HOLIDAY IN CELEBRATION OF EID’L-ADHA (FEAST OF SACRIFICE)

WHEREAS, RA 9849 provides that Eid’l Adha shall be celebrated as a national holiday;

WHEREAS, Eid’l Adha is one of the two greatest feast of Islam;

WHEREAS, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) has confirmed that the feast of Eid’l Adha falls on November 16, 2010;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BENIGNO S. AQUINO III, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Tuesday, November 16, 2010 as a national holiday in observance of Eid’l Adha (Feast of Sacrifice).

Miss Venezuela Elizabeth Mosquera wins the  50th Miss International 2010 in Chengdu, Sichuan Province,China. Mosquera is a 19-year-old beauty taking up Civil Engineering at the University of Zulia.

First Runner-up is Miss Thailand Piyaporn Deejing and followed by Miss China Si Yi Yuan as second runner-up.
