Malacañang has declared February 25, 2011 as a holiday for all levels in private and public schools to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution. However, it will be a regular working day for all public and private employees. The People Power Celebration runs from February 17 to 27, with the theme “Tatak Edsa: Pilipino Ako, Ako ang Lakas ng Pagbabago [The Mark of Edsa: I am a Filipino, I am the Strength Behind Change].”
The first EDSA People Power Revolution took place from 22 to 25 February 1986. Millions of Filipinos gathered along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) in a non-violent demonstration that led to the deposition of then-president Ferdinand E. Marcos. President Corazon Aquino was installed as president when Marcos was in exile.
