The bad weather that plagued the 2010 F1 Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka, Japan on Saturday has is not the only problem for 2008 World Champion Lewis Hamilton. The  McLaren driver was meted a 5-place drop penalty on the grid as team McLaren was forced to change the gearbox on their F1 car. The team discovered an oil pressure problem on the gearbox.

The 25-year-old Hamilton has been encountering consecutive problems in Suzuka. After crashing his car last Friday in practice, he was joined 22 others who were not able to set a timed lap because of wet circuit.

Due to bad weather, F1 organizers posponed the Qualifying session until Sunday. The 5.8km Suzuka circuit is one of the most challenging circuits for the F1 drivers.

Hamilton is now in third place in the driver’s championship tally with four races remaining. He is 20 points behind 2nd placer Red Bull‘s Mark Webber. Hamilton was forced to retire due to accident damage in the Italian Grand Prix and Singapore Grand Prix.
