Do you agree that President Noynoy Aquino III must be excommunicated by the Roman Catholic Church for supporting Reproductive Health (RH) Bill? You may want to give your comments on this issue by filling up the comments section below this article.

Wikipedia defined Excommunication as:

Excommunication is a religious censure used to deprive or suspend membership in a religious community. The word means putting [someone] out of communion. In some religions, excommunication includes spiritual condemnation of the member or group. Censures and sanctions sometimes follow excommunication; these include banishment, shunning, and shaming, depending on the religion, the offense that caused excommunication, or the rules or norms of the religious community.

Bishop Nereo Odchimar, head of the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) in an interview said:

“He [Aquino] must consider the position of the Catholic Church because we are approaching these issues from the moral aspect like the unborn. Abortion is a grave crime. Excommunication is attached to it. That is an issue of gravity, that is a violation of God’s commandment.”

“As a matter of fact, excommunication is attached to those who commit abortion.”

This pronouncement by the  CBCP head has led to speculations that the Catholic church is threatening to excommunicate PNoy because the president is supporting the use of contraceptive as a means of family planning. President Noynoy Aquino however is standing his ground against the excommunication threat.

the philippines is composed of muslims, non-catholic christians, agnostics, atheists, and a lot more others just to name a few; the catholic church should stop emposing its rules on a nation they are not fully in control of; the state’s responsibility is to provide solutions to problems of the entire nation not only to the catholic community; if the catholics think that such solution will be a threath to the catholic family values, then it is not the state’s failure; family values is the church’s responsibilities; a person’s failure to adhere to a church’s prescribed value, or a person’s immorality, should not be taken against the state. If there is one institution that should fix that problem of subjective immorality- it is the church; At least, with an encompassing solution, the state provides options for the whole nation that will surely solve a problem even up to the worst case of all scenarios, even with the lack of family values that the church should be fixing in the first place… and just to prove a point, why not excommunicate millions of Catholics all around the world who use condoms, pills, etc. etc. etc.?
