Season 73 of the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) will start its men’s basketball finals today, September 25, 2010. Game time is at 4:20 p.m. at the Araneta Coliseum, Cubao, Quezon City. The Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) Blue Eagles will square off against Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws in the best-of-three series of the UAAP Finals.
Ateneo Blue Eagles versus FEU Tamaraws series at the Big Dome will surely be an intense series as both teams claim that they are hungry for the title. The Blue Eagles have lost their previous two games in the eliminations against the Tamaraws this season, but FEU admits that both teams are starting from scratch and that Ateneo enjoys the advantage of having a championship experience. Ateneo is aiming for a three-peat, as they have won the two previous UAAP titles. FEU, however, is trying to get a record of 20th overall UAAP title.
Norman Black is the head coach of the Ateneo Blue Eagles, while, Glenn Capacio steers the FEU Tamaraws. FEU is expected to rely on league MVP RR Garcia, top rookie Terrence Romeo and veteran big men Aldrech Ramos and Reil Cervantes. The Eagles, however, will try to offset the Tamaraws offense with good team defense. Ateneo will rally behind the leadership of Eric Salamat, Ryan Buenafe, Kirk Long, Nico Salva and Emman Monfort to bring home their third straight UAAP championship. Meanwhile, the Eagles will miss the services of suspended back-up center Jumbo Escueta.
