In contrast with the hostage taking incident at Quirino Grandstand in Manila, Philippines two weeks ago, a hostage taker was shot dead by SWAT officers at the Discovery Communications building today September 1, 2010(September 2, 2010 Manila Time) .
Three employees of the building was taken as hostages by 43 year old, James J. Lee. The hostage taking lasted for only three hours. Lee had a gun and an explosive during the hostage taking. Police had earlier negotiated with the hostage taker around 1 p.m. The SWAT decided to shoot Lee around 4 p.m. when they saw that the hostages were in danger.
Last August 23, 2010, more than 20 Hongkong tourists were taken hostage by a policeman inside a bus at Quirino Grandstand in Manila. The incident resulted in the death of several hostages.
