Leandro Barbosa’s last shot bounced off the back and front of rim, before finally rimming out. The shot of Barbosa could have sent the game into overtime that could have tested Team USA even more. It was the first tough game for young Team USA and the game served as a warning to the NBA led USA team that it will not be easy to win this event. The Americans have not won this tournament in 16-years and this game against Brazil will be an eye opener for them that this event is tougher than they thought. Team USA trailed majority of the first 2 1/2 quarters.
Kevin Durant again led Team USA as he scored 27 points. Chauncey Billups added 15 points. Team USA has now clinched Group B with a 3-0 record. But they have bigger goals than a group championship, trying to end a 16-year U.S. drought in this event.
Barbosa finished the game with 14 points. Brazil now has a 2-1 record. Marcus Vinicius added 16, and Tiago Splitter chipped in 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Brazilians.
The crowd roared again to support Brazilians as if everyone are against any USA win in this tournament.
Team USA is headed by coach Mike Krzyzewski while Brazil is coached by Ruben Magnano.
USA will next face Iran on Wednesday, September 1, 2010.
