A lot of people around the world, not only the Hongkong people or the Chinese, got angry with the hostage taking that took place last Monday, August 23, 2010 at the Quirino Grandstand, Manila. This is definitely a natural reaction coming from almost everybody. Social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and other blog sites are filled with articles and comments related to the hostage taking.
The hostage drama is definitely alarming with the way it was handled by the authorities. However, it is time to move on and face the reality of life. I believe that the real problem should be looked at, beyond the hostage taking. The hostage drama is an isolated case, but its effect is far and wide.
The pain that this crisis have brought to everybody will surely subside in a couple of days. I believe that the Hongkong people and the Chinese are not angry with all the Filipinos. Jacky Chan’s tweet- “HK is a nation built by a lot of different people..don’t worry! We do not hate!”- is already an assurance that the relation between Hongkong and the Philippines will continue to be good.
