Traditionally, Labor Day, is a non-working holiday. But since May 1, 2010 falls on a Saturday, it will now be a regular working day. The non-working day for that particular holiday will now be implemented on the nearest Monday which is May 3, 2010. The transfer of the non-working holiday is based on Republic Act 9492 or the holiday economics of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. RA 9492 seeks to make holidays, except those with religious significance, that falls on a regular working day be transferred to the nearest Monday. President Arroyo issued RA 9492 to encourage families to get together and strengthen their relationship towards a more productive environment, as well as to promote domestic tourism and enable employers to plan their work schedules effectively and efficiently.
