Google Donates 2 Million Dollars To Wikipedia

Wikipedia logoJimmy Wales, Wikipedia founder, confirmed that Wikimedia Foundation received 2 million dollars in donation from Google. According to Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google, they considered Wikipedia as “one of the greatest triumphs of the Internet…this vast repository of community-generated content is an invaluable resource to anyone who is online.”

The donation, from the Google Charitable Giving Fund of Tides Foundation, will be used to upgrade the bandwidth and multimedia needs of Wikipedia.

Pierre Omidyar, eBay founder, made the same donation six months ago. Google and Wikimedia have made some collaborations in the past like translating most of Wikipedia contents into different languages.
