Why Adsense Is Not Showing Ads

There are instances that upon opening your site, Adsense does not show any Ads.  Several things may be causing this problem.  Here are some pointers to verify if you happen to encounter this.

  • Is the Adsense code newly generated? Usually, ads should appear almost immediately after adding a code in your page, but it also can take up to 48 hours for ads to appear in your page.  The reason is that, Googlebot needs to check first the content of your page to determine its content and show relevant and targeted ads.
  • Did you add the exact code on your page? Ensure that you added the entire code on your page, that is provided by Google Adsense Ads generator. You are not allowed to make any changes to the linebreaks of the code (e.g. must not copy the code in one line).  Any changes to the code will definitely prevent ads from showing.
  • What editor did you use to copy the code to your page? Using Macromedia DreamweaverMS FrontPage and other WYSIWIG(“what you see is what you get”) software may cause problems if you paste the code in “Design” or “Layout” view. Make sure that you paste the code in HTML view and no additional tags were inserted or changes in the linebreaks by your editor.
  • Did you use a Content Management System (CMS)? CMS such as Drupal, WordPress and Joomla have different ways of implementing AdSense. You can verify how different CMS implement Adsense by checking out the forums for the CMS that you used.  Seeking help from your program provider will clear things up immediately.
  • Did you use nested frames for your ads? Adsense allows you to place codes anywhere in your page, but using too many div tags or nested frames may prevent ads from appearing correctly. Browser settings usually has a great effect in displaying your ads, thus, you must verify how your browser deals with frames so that ads will be displayed properly.
  • Did you enable JavaScript in your browser? Adsense uses JavaScript to display ads in your page.  Make sure that you enable JavaScript in your browser. There also instances that other JavaScript within your page prevents AdSense from showing ads.
  • Do you have a dynamic web page? Some web pages are not shown thoroughly unless you login to that page or site.  Make sure that you copy the code to a page that is not behind a login to ensure that ads will be shown immediately without logging in.
