Most software development company claims that they give free downloads of their software. Downloading these free software however, does not always come free after all.  Software that are downloaded can come in the following types:

  1. Trialware-software that can be installed and used freely for a limited amount of time or limited number of users.  Some trialware software also comes in with limited functionality.  When the trial period is over, you will be given the option to continue using the software but you now have to pay a certain amount or you may not be able to continue using the software.
  2. Shareware-similar to trialware software in such a way that the software can be used for a certain period of time.  However, shareware software can still be used even after the specified length of time or trial period.
  3. Demo-software that has a very limited functionality and is not really usable.  The main use of the software is to give an overview or feel of the features of that software.  This software sometimes can be irritating because of its very limited functions.
  4. Freeware-software that is absolutely free to install and use in our desktop or laptop without any limitations.  This software usually are those for personal use, and not for commercial or business use.

You forgot the biggest type of software used in the Philippines, Crackedware or Pirateware. Everyone I know, or every computer shop has a large collection of most software with a crack or usable serial number.

want to know why many of the popular software is so expensive, they need to make up for all their software with pirated licenses.

Since they are not legitimate software, I don’t want to include them as a type of download software. Some of this pirated software are just by-product of Trialware and Shareware. Once downloaded and expired, that’s the time cracks are applied.
